A Tale for a Tail
A Tale for a Tail is a one-hour reading program where children visit the PBHSN main shelter to read to our cats, creating a unique form of enrichment for both the kids and the animals.
How to participate:
Children of all ages can participate in A Tale for a Tail on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at our main shelter. Participants may read to shelter cats and PBHSN will supply the books. Space is limited, registration is required to participate. One registration per participating child.
Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Note: We require one parent/guardian per three children while at the shelter.
When you arrive at the shelter, please sign in at the front desk, choose a book and start making a shelter cat’s day!
Please contact Patrizia Vila at patrizia.vila@pbhsnaples.org for more information on groups.

How it helps:
These interactions reduce stress for our shelter pets, helping them relax and gain confidence around people. As a result, they become more adoptable and better prepared to thrive in their new homes.
The program also benefits the humans involved, allowing them to practice their reading and gain confidence reading aloud while in a safe and fun environment. The readers benefit from the incredible feeling of helping and spending time with a shelter pet in need.
